I have always been interested with ephemera--old receipts, pamphlets, letters, postcards, etc. The fact that decades old transitory items have avoided the trash heap is rather fascinating. As I started work on this album, my interest in the old reared its head in the form of electronic ephemera--long forgotten educational filmstrips and feature-length movies that had fallen into the public domain.

Samples from twelve such films have found their way into Nothing to be Afraid Of. The oldest is from the 1941 filmstrip "Verniers." The most recent is from the thrilling 1980 educational film "My Mother was Never a Kid." Not only is the audio ripe for sampling, but the aged films themselves look wonderful in the short promo videos I created for a handful of these tracks. You can see them on my Instagram page:
